This tote was made using the local fabrics that are typically used for making school uniforms. School is not free in Haiti, and uniforms are required. For the average Haitian family, it is very difficult to afford the tuition as well as the uniforms for the school year for their children.
100% of the proceeds from the sale of these totes will be put towards tuition for school children in Haiti at the Academy for Peace + Justice, run by the wonderful non-profit Artists for Peace and Justice.
Set on a magnificent campus, the Academy for Peace and Justice is the first secondary school of its kind in Haiti, serving the most talented and most deserving youth in the nation’s capital city of Port-au-Prince. Growing by 400 students every year, the Academy will service 3,000 underprivileged students at full capacity in 2016. The Academy for Peace and Justice has competitive sports programs with boys and girls teams in basketball, soccer, volleyball, martial arts, dance, and tennis. Every student at the Academy receives a full scholarship which includes full tuition, uniforms, and year round access to St. Luke’s medical services.
